Building Your Ministry

I. Get Involved In Your Community

A. There are many national organizations that have chapters in all major communities.

   1. The Salvation Army provides many opportunities for training and volunteering. We have had a number of our members find paid ministering jobs through the SA or through meeting other pastors there. They always need help at Christmas and depending on your area they can help you with programs for your ministry.

   2. The YMCA operates as a non-denominational Christian Association to provide day-care and extra curriculum classes for all youth. Provides a great atmosphere for volunteers to learn all aspects of working with youth. At times, the YMCA may be able to provide low pay positions. (Depends on your area)

   3. Rotary International, though not organized as a Christian organization will have a large majority of Christian business men and women who are, internationally as well as locally, oriented in helping others. They can provide many business and financial opportunities. (Monthly Rotary dues can be expensive, however some clubs offer discounts to Ministers.)

   4. The Chamber of Commerce, as a general rule, will have many Christians who are business as well as community oriented who can provide business and financial opportunities. Look for your local Chamber.

   4. Large non-denominational Christian churches are always looking for help that can lead to paid positions.

   5. Small/Medium non-denominational Christian churches provide the opportunity to learn faster in more areas of ministry. You must be willing to volunteer. Everyone should provide volunteer time; so how about learning when not earning.

II. Team-Up with a Ministry Partner. Spouses Team with Another Couple.

A. Meet once a week and start by creating a plan based on prayer.

   1. Start every meeting with prayer, praise and thanksgiving.

   2. Add other team members/couples as you expand your activities and knowledge in Christ.

III. Develop Better Communication Skills

A. It doesn’t matter what we know or what we’ve learned if we can not communicate it effectively.

   1. Write. Get out some paper, turn on the computer and write. The three rules of writing are: Write, Write & Write.

   2. Learn to properly format your writing, learn to spell, learn about sentence structure and most importantly know what an essay is and how to write one.

   3. This in not about becoming a great writer, it’s about becoming a great speaker. We speak how we write and we write how we speak.

   4. God wants us to communicate His kingdom with His glory.

VI. Listen to the Lord

A. Become a better listener for those who need help.

   1. Pray and abide in the Holy Spirit continually.
